Rent Small Warehouse Space in St. Petersburg with ReadySpaces
St. Petersburg is a city on Florida’s west coast, situated west of Tampa Bay. It is affectionately referred to as “St. Pete” by locals. Although it is part of the Tampa metropolitan area, it is a large city in its own right, with a vibrant downtown and distinct culture. St. Petersburg is known for its warm weather and pristine beaches, which historically have attracted many retirees to the area.
St. Petersburg also has a vibrant arts scene—the Dali Museum, Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement, and the Chihuly Collection are all located in downtown St. Petersburg. Many locals find St. Petersburg to be a more laid-back alternative to the hustle and bustle of nearby Tampa, and enjoy the city’s walkable downtown.
The economy in St. Petersburg is diversified, and health care, retail, finance, and tourism are the largest industries. Many offices and warehouses are concentrated in the Gateway District, which is an area located directly north of downtown St. Petersburg. This business district doesn’t have clearly defined boundaries and spans into nearby Pinellas Park.
The Gateway District is the site of the Gateway Logistics Center, which is one of the largest new industrial developments in the Tampa Bay area. When fully completed, this development will include six warehouses, making it an important distribution center for western Florida. Two buildings have already been completed and leased, while the next phase has just broken ground.
Although St. Petersburg is located on a peninsula, there are many transportation and shipping connections to nearby cities. I-275 is the largest highway artery in the city. This road links downtown St. Petersburg with Tampa and Sarasota via bridges. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is used for small cargo flights and offers seasonal passenger service. Tampa International Airport is located roughly 20 miles away and serves major airlines, international flights, and larger cargo service.
Historically, Tampa Bay has been an important center for cargo shipping due to its location on the water. The Port of St. Petersburg is located in the downtown area. Today, this port is primarily used by the Coast Guard and by local yachts. However, Port Tampa Bay is located directly east of St. Petersburg and is much larger. Port Tampa Bay is the region’s center for cargo shipping. St. Petersburg does not have its own freight rail lines, but there are freight rail centers in nearby Tampa and Clearwater.
Startups and growing eCommerce brands can take advantage of these shipping options available throughout the Tampa Bay area. St. Petersburg has very low tax rates, which makes it an enticing location to start a business. The city is also known for its 0% individual income tax rate, which can help attract employees.
